Standard-Democrat, Sikeston, MO August 28, 2002 March 13, 1927-August 26, 2002 East Prairie, MO- Ruth Ellen Estes Adkisson, 75, died at 8:15 p.m. August 26, 2002, at the East Prairied Nursing Center. Born March 13, 1927, daughter of the late Alvin and Mable Owens Estes, she live in Mississippi County most of her life and retired as a secretary for Brown Shoe Company of Charleston, MO. She was a member of the First Christian Church of East Prairie; past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Charleston and charter member of Jobe’s Daughters of Mississippi County, for which she had served as a grand officer. On May 17, 1947, she married Paul Adkisson who survives of the home. Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Debbie Adkisson of East Prairie; one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Jim Mann of Maumelle, AR; and five grandchildren, Shane Adkisson, Dawn Sutton, Jason Mann, Brian Mann and Stephanie Mann and four great-grandchildren. Visitation begins at 6 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Fred Girdwood and her grandson, Shane Adkisson, will officiate. Burial will follow in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Mike Bryant, Gill Greenwood, Robert Peebles, Kevin Mainord, Ronnie Jones and Bill Thurmond.
