March 21, 1903-Nov. 27, 1975 Willie Swank Owens, age, 72, a resident of 207 West Pine, East Prairie, passed away Thursday, Nov. 27, 1975, at 8:30 p.m. at the Delta Community Hospital in Sikeston, MO, after an illness of several months. He was born March 21, 1903, in Wardell, MO, son of the late William Penn Owens and Vada Miller Owens. He had lived in Mississippi County for most of his life where he was engaged in farming until his retirement in 1965. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of East Prairie. On June 6, 1931, he married Gladys Archer who survives of the home. Other survivors are: one son, Billy Owens, and one daughter, Mrs. Bruce (Janna) Clifft, both of East Prairie; one sister Mrs. Mable Owens Estes of East Prairie; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. One daughter, Shirley Owens Heil, and two brothers preceded him in death. The body lay in state at the McMikle Funeral Home in East Prairie where funeral services were held in the McMikle Chapel, Saturday, Nov. 29, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ted Wimberley of the East Prairie Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery with the McMikle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
