Mar. 22, 1941-Aug. 10, 2002 East Prairie—Larry H. Owens, 61, died at 11:45 p.m. Aug. 10, 2002, at his residence in East Prairie. Born March 22, 1941, near Diehlstadt, son of the late Charley M. and Altha Marie Smith Owens, he had lived in East Prairie most of his life. He was a retired riverboat captain, employed by Midland Company for 34 years. Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Knight Owens of the home; one son, Craig Owens of East Prairie; one stepson, Aaron Barnhill of Ellsinore; two stepdaughters, Jo Saulter of DeSoto and Dawn Dick of East Prairie; one brother, Denny Owens of Benton; three sisters, Wilma Jean Bradham of Benton, Alma Ruth Ashcraft of Jackson and Margie Smithson of Owasso, OK; and two grandchildren, and 12 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, four brothers and a stepson. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Aubrey Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Cecil Hamontree, Charlie McCoy, Nick Thurman, Shirley Bard, Lindell Morris, and George Ivie. Honorary pallbearers will be: Tommy Culp, Runt Myrick, Eddie Golightly, Donnie Haney, Billy J. Chance, Wayne Stockman and Ray Ivie.
