Nov. 15, 1905-Dec. 19, 1986 Funeral services for Alta Marie Owens, 81, were held Sunday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. in the Shelby Chapel in East Prairie. The Rev. Martin Lucas, associate pastor of the First Christian Church in East Prairie officiated. Rev. David Bowden, pastor of the First Christian Church assisted. Burial followed in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery with the Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Owens died Friday Dec. 19, 1986, at 12:10 a.m. at the MO Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. She was born Nov. 15, 1905 near Anniston to the late James Calvin and Mattie Burt Smith. She was a lifelong resident of Mississippi County and a member of the First Christian Church in East Prairie, a member of the R.S.V.P. , and a former cook for the Sixty Plus Nutrition Center in East Prairie. She was united in marriage to the Charley Miller Owens who preceded her in death Dec. 22, 1971. Survivors are three sons, Billy A. Owens of Wichita, KS; Denny L. Owens of Benton, MO; and Larry Owens of Anniston, MO; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas L. (Wilma) Bradham of Benton; Mrs. Gary (Alma) Ashcraft of Havelock, NC; and Mrs. Harry (Margie) Smithson of Sapulpa, OK; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by three sons, three brothers, and two sisters.
