June 29, 1928-Jan. 29, 1956 JERRY D. OWENS ![]() Aug. 11, 1932-Jan. 29, 1956 Standard Democrat, Sikeston, MO James Forrest Owens 28 was killed in a wreck on highway 61 four miles north of Sikeston, MO. He and his brother, Jerry D. Owens, both of St. Louis, were on their way to East Prairie to visit their parents when their car skidded and overturned killing them instantly. The date of the deaths of James Forrest Owens and Jerry D. Owens was January 29, 1956. Both young men were the sons of Charley and Marie Owens of East Prairie and both were married. They were employed by the Lincoln-Mercury Division of St. Louis and both lived in St. Louis. James Owens was born June 29, 1928, near East Prairie and is survived by his wife, Pauline Hampton Owens and a two-year old daughter, Paula Kay. Jerry D. Owens was born August 11, 1932, and is survived by his wife, Patricia Case Owens. Both were service veterans. James had served three years in the Army and two in the navy and was overseas three years in Korea. Jerry served four yeas in the Air Force, thirteen months overseas, including Korea. Both are survived by their parents; three sisters, Mrs. LeRoy Bradham of Bellfoire, VA; Alma Ruth and Margie Owens of the home; four brothers; Charles Ray with the Army in Japan; Billy of Charleston; Denny of St. Louis and Larry at home; and their paternal grandmother, Nevada Miller Owens of East Prairie. The bodies will lie in state at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie until time for the double funeral Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. at the Shelby Chapel with Bro. Melvin Bryant, pastor of the Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the W.O.W.
