    TOMMY J. TANNER
    June 7, 1931-Mar. 31, 2004

    Tommy Joe Tanner, 74, of Pocahontas, AR, died Friday, March 31, 2004. He was born June 7, 1931, in England, AR, the son of the late Bill and Elcie Tanner. He was a navy veteran of the Korean War and served aboard the USS Naval Ship Badoeng Strait. He was employed by the Pocahontas Street Department and was a deacon of the Pocahontas Missionary Baptist Church. His wife, Doris Miller Tanner, and two brothers, Jack and Billy Tanner, also preceded him in death.

    He is survived by two daughters, Sherri Matheny of Ravendon, AR, and JoAnn Christie of Oakland, TN; two grandsons, J. and Scott Matheny and one granddaughter, Katie Christie; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Kanyon Matheny; two brothers, Don and Richard Tanner of Cabot, AR; four sisters, Mary Lou Lunceford of Milton, FL; Lorean Davidson of Jonesboro, AR; Betty Sartain of Paris, TN and Eva Grimmett of Franklin, TN.

    Funeral services were held Monday in the Pocahontas Missionary Baptist Church in Pocahontas.

    Burial followed in Masonic Cemetery under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.

    Pallbearers were Don Burgess, Chad Williams, Jim Gates, Mike Tyler, Glen Obarts and Jeb Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers were Don Brown and Tim Snow.

    Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.
