DODD, LARUE, LEAURE posted by Jo Seidl Leaue on Tuesday, December 9, 1997

I am researching my father's family. The surname is Learue or LaRue. My father's name was Ovean Learue, he died in 1937, while residing in Steele, Missouri.I believe he was 31 or 32. My mother's name was Verna DODD. My parents were married in 1935, I believe in Pemiscot County. My father was the youngest of 16 children of Alice and I believe my grandfather's name was John. I can remember three of my father's brothers names, Hillard, Clyne and Frank. Since my father was the youngest child, most likely all his siblings are gone. I was born in Steele, Missouri. May 11, 1936. My birth certificate states Jo Alice Learue but I believe my father's brothers spelled thier names LaRue. I have a bother Ovean Lee Leaure (now spelling his name LaRue) born October 1937. My mother remarried in 1942 and moved us to Oregon, she is now gone and I have lost all resources, for information on my fathers side of my family. Thank you so much, Jo Seidl-Leaue

CURRY, FERRELL, GINGER, HALE, WILKEY posted by Carolyn Kurtz on Tuesday, December 9, 1997

Subject: HALE, CURRY, FERRELL, GINGER I am researching the family line of James Washington HALE b 1832, married to Martha Jane GINGER b 1844. I can connect Martha back 2 generations, but am having trouble connecting James to his parents. I need help in this area. Census states his parents from VA, Marriage license states he was from IN. I found on an 1850 census in IN a Charlotte WILKEY with James W. Hale, age 18, with a younger sister Mary E., age 16, married to a Hugh WILKEY from Ireland. Charlotte, James and Mary all state born in KY on that census. Marriage record for Charlotte Hale, widow of John Hale, married to Hugh Wilkey in Jefferson County, KY on 2/20/1845. Since James Washington named his first son Charles and first daugher Mary E., the evidence is pretty strong this could be his mother. I need more information.

ASHCRAFT, GROSS, HOLT, JONES, TUCKER posted by Myra Chambers on Tuesday, December 9, 1997

I am researching the family of John Richard JONES, who was born in Raymondsville, MO, 2/14/1868. He married Nancy Jane GROSS in 1890. They had 10 children, the eldest of whom was my grandmother, Elmira Mae Jones. John Richard moved his family to Conway Co., AR, where Nancy Jane died in 1911. She is buried on Petite Jean Mtn. He subsequently married Martha Grace TUCKER (HOLT, ASHCRAFT) in 1912, and they had three sons. He later moved back to Tyler, MO, and died there in 11/05/1935. According to his obituary, he is buried in Mt. Zion Cemetary near Tyler. Tyler is in Pemiscot County in the Southeastern part of the state. Any help will be greatly appreciated. My grandmother was born in 1891. Nancy Jane Gross father was George Washington Gross who was born in 1842 in Wayne Co., MO. I just received a copy of John's death certificate. It states that his father was Wesley Jones who was born in Scotland or Ireland. Mother's maiden name and place of birth was unknown.
