    Sept. 8, 1923-Sept. 16,1944
    Standard Democrat, Sikeston, MO

    Ross Harlen Abernathy, 71, died Sept. 16, 1944, at Veterans Hospital in Memphis, TN.

    Born Sept. 8, 1923, at Gideon, son of the late Ross and Marie Wilson Abernathy, he had been employed by Millwright Construction, Millwright Local 602 in St. Louis. He was a member of American Legion Henry Meldrum Post 114.

    On Jan. 12, 1943, at Benton, he married Rosa Lee Johnson who survives of the home.

    Other survivors include: one son, Stanley Abernathy of Sikeston; three daughters, Linda Woodard of Brandon, FL, Jill Fetters of Sikeston and Phyllis Reeves of Wickliffe, KY; one brother, Robert Abernathy of East Prairie; one sister, Erlene Hanson of East Prairie; and six grandchildren and one grandchild.

    Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday with Johnny Hester, pastor of the Shady Acres Church of Christ, officiating.

    Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston, MO.
