Elmer Gilliland - 1909 - 1966 He was born July 1, 1909 in Blunt County, Alabama. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Effie Gilliland; a daughter Mrs. Leroy Cook, Cottage Hills, Illinois; two sons Eugene and Elmer Gilliland, Jr., the latter of Morley; two sisters Mrs. Velma Barks, Cairo, Illinois and Mrs. Drude Abercrombie, Cape Girardeau; seven brothers Bill Gilliland of Morley, Quincy Gilliland of Bell City, Charles Gilliland of Lutesville, Dean Gilliland of St. Louis, Monroe Gilliland of East St. Louis, Illinois, L.N. and O.O. Gilliland of Sikeston, and 4 grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Nunnelee Funeral Home, services were conducted at Vanduser Church of God by Rev. Herschel Hunter assisted by Rev. Lee J. True, interment was in New Morley Cemetery. NOTE: The obituary is contributed by Floyd Cooper, from the records of his grandfather Rev. William Sidney Bailey who was pastor of several churches around southeast Missouri in the 1940's, 1950's, 1960's and 1970's (Perkins, Chaffee, Commerce, Hayti, Wyatt, Clarkton, and Blodgett). Rev. Bailey was living in Perkins when he died at the age of 82 and is buried in the Williams Cemetery in Perkins, MO.
