She remained on the farm with her children till all were married, and for the next ten years made her home with her daughter Mrs. K Meiderhoff. Later she spent some time at the homes of different children. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Schitter of Fornfelt and Mrs. Mary Holsbach of Massilon, Ohio. She was a sister of the John Witt who owned the land which the town of Chaffee now stands. She enjoyed good health till 1907 and was very active for her age. While she did not have to work she insisted on doing so. When the end drew near she was willing to answer the call. She died surrounded by all of her children. Her remains were laid to rest in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in New Hamburg, beside those of her husband, after a requiem and sermon by Father Moenig. The large attendance showed the high respect in which she was held by the whole community. May she rest in peace.
