1896 - 1944 Sister M
Emmanuel, formerly Zita Miller of
Oran, Mo, daughter of Edward and Caroline Kielhoefner, died at the Motherhouse
on Monday, July 31, 1944, at 4 A.M.(DST), in her 49th year and 31st of her
religious life. General carcinoma was the immediate cause of death.
She had suffered from breast cancer for two years.
Zita born on April 9, 1896, and was an aspirant
at St. Francis Academy in Joliet. She became a postulant on December 8,
1912, and entered the Novitiate as Sister M. Emmanuel
on August 12, 1913, then made First Vows on August 12, 1915, and Final
Vows on August 12, 1919. She was trained to be a music teacher, having received her Bachelor of Music degree from Columbia School of Music,
Chicago, Il, in June, 1927.
At one time there were four Miller sisters in
the Congregation, oldest to youngest: Sister Laurence, Sister Emmanuel, Sister
Michael, Sister Virgil. Due to the health of their parents, Sister
Laurence obtained a dispensation in 1942.
* Sister Laurence lived in Oran and was known
as Marie A Miller nickname "Toni".
