| Surnames:(in capital letters only) | SHAY & MAYBERRY |
| Comments: | I am looking for any info on James M. Shay or his 1st wife Margaret Mayberry Shay. They lived in Sandy Woods, Scott Co., Missouri in the 1860's. James served in the Civil War with the 50th Missouri Infantry. The couple had at least 3 daughters together. Mary born abt. 1861, Nancy about. 1863 and Jane Rebecca in Nov 1866. Margaret died in the mid to late 1860's and James was remarried to a teenager named Rebecca Jane Withrow born in 1851. By 1870, shortly after his remarriage, James passed away. He had no children with his second wife Rebecca...widowed age 18. James' 1st wife Margaret Mayberry was born in Kentucky and James was born in Ohio. I do not have any info on Margaret's parents or James' parents. I do not have birth or death dates for James & Margaret nor do I know what cemetery they are buried in. There is a possibility that they are buried in Blodgett Cemetery near Sandy Woods. James' second wife Rebecca Peal is buried there. James Shay's widow Rebecca was remarried to a man with the last name Peal. Rebecca J. Peal is listed under a Civil War Pension Record for James Shay dated 1894. James' daughters continued living with Rebecca according to the 1870 and 1880 census records. |
