Mississippian Age Fossil Echinoids

of St. Louis, Mo.



Meloechinus maltiporus. This specimen was found in the St. Louis
Limestone. This was a giant prehistoric and now extinct sea urchin
that were abundant in St. Louis during the Mississippian period of
the Paleozoic. Collection of Dr. Bruce Stinchcomb of Ferguson, Mo.
 

This Meloechinus was found in rocks belonging to the Salem formation.
