Memorial Day Ceremonies – May 31, 1999

Members of the U.S. Grant Camp participated in the Memorial Day ceremonies at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Steve Leicht, Bob Amsler, John Avery, Don Palmer and Mark Coplin marched in the parade along side Jim England and members of Sterling Price Camp #145 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. After a speech by State Senator Ted House (D-2nd District), Don Palmer placed a flower on the ceremonial wreath to honor the veterans of all wars buried at Jefferson Barracks.

At the conclusion of the main event, short ceremonies were held at the monument placed by the Daughters of Union Veterans and then at the Confederate veterans memorial. Participating were members of the U.S. Grant and W.T. Sherman Camps of the SUVCW and members of the Sterling Price Camp and a Confederate re-enactment group.

After the events at Jefferson Barracks, members of the U.S. Grant Camp gathered at White Haven to place a wreath in honor of Ulysses S. Grant. White Haven is located on Gravois Rd. just across from Grant’s Farm.

To conclude a busy day, members of the U.S. Grant and Sterling Price camps assembled at Sappington Cemetery for a short ceremony and to place a new flag to fly over the cemetery. Also in attendance was Ross        , who is involved with the Sappington Historical Society.
