"A 63 year old Puxico man died in the wreckage of his pickup truck about 12:20
pm Wednesday on Highway 51 about five miles north of Puxico near the Idlewild
community. Dead is William Lester Sissum, who apparently suffered a heart
attack, Highway Patrol Cpt. K.R. Ledbetter said. Sissum was driving a south
bound 1972 Ford pickup truck that ran off the highway and struck a tree, the
trooper said. Ledbetter said it could not be determined immediately whether
Mr. Sissum died as a result of the heart attack or from injuries in the
accident. The cause of death has been ruled as undetermined by Stoddard County
Coroner Ray Rainey. Mr Sissum was born January 6, 1920, at Russellville,
Arkansas. He was married to Retha Rackley June 15, 1940, and in 1949 moved to
Stoddard County. He had been a resident of Puxico 18 years. He was a farmer
and timber worker. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Betty Irwin of
Jackson, Carolyn Dunn of Pevely and Linda Marriott of New York; two soms, David
Sissum and Michael Sissum, both of the home; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 6 pm today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home at Puxico.
The funeral will be at 2 pm Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Ray
Placher and Kenneth Lambert conducting services. Burial will be in Morgan
Memorial Park Cemetery at Advance.
