William and Catherine moved into the old cabin residence formerly used by his
mother, Martha Barton Jarnagin on the Jarnagin property after their marriage.
When William died, the court appointed Catherine's brother as legal guardian
of Catherine (a Minor) and her child, and he and his wife, Ann, moved into the
home with Catherine and took charge of the estate. Catherine Kelley was only
17 at the time of her marriage to William Calvin. In 1836 after she had
reached the age of 21, she married again to Jacob Smith.

houses of the MS Legislature for twenty years.
