Pioneer Families of Mis. by Bryan; Stephen left Bedford County, VA
Came to Kentucky 1776; Followed "Boone's trace" past Blue Licks, Twitty's Fort
to Boonesborough in fall 1776 to Oct 1777; went back to VA with company of
Thomas Philips and eight other. In Oct 1777 with brother William and familes
came to Boonesborough. At the fort in 1780. He moved to his place on Tates
Creek. Recorded from records of Stephen Hancock in Madison Co, KY. One
version suggests Stephen and William met Daniel Sep 1775.
William and Stephen left Fort in January 1778 for Blue Licks. Captured by
Indians in Frebruary. Stephen got away. William when to Chillicothe with
Daniel Boone and other salt makers; escaped.
(Kentucky Pioneer states Stephen taken to Debroit as prisoner with Richard Wade,
husband of Judy. Part of Boonesboro defense 1778 with D. Boone.)

St. Louis County Will, dated 20 Aug 1827 (he died approx 2 weeks later) Listed
in will is "Stephen Hancock, my son" to who most of the estate is given in
Bonhoome Township after death of "my beloved wife Judith". Will Book A, pg 330
In Draper Manuscript Robert Hancock states his father died in 1824 at the age
of 88.

Hempstead and Kincaid. Served in War 1812 under command of Gen. Henry Dodge.
Killed instantly at home one night by Indians.
