Submitted by: Vicki Burress Roach (Found by the Alcorn Co. Gen. Society in a Confederate Pension roll book.) Department of Public Accounts, Jackson, Miss. March 21, 1930 Hon. W.L. Madden Chancery Clerk Corinth, Mississippi Dear Mr. Madden: I am returning you applications of Mrs. Watt and Mrs. Collins for the reason the new pension law that is now in effect provides for a special meeting the first Monday in April to act on application of pensioners who for some reason have never made application before, and none of these special bills passed-at least, as yet. In my opinion, the safest thing to do is to present these to your board at its April meeting as more than likely these special bills will not be passed. As I wrote you before, Mrs. Collins' applications shows she is only 58 years of age-and therefore, not eligible to draw a pension. Of course, the board cannot approve her application-that is, an(d) abide by the law. With every good wish, I am, Sincerely yours, Carl C. White, State Auditor

Submitted by: Vicki Burress Roach (Found by the Alcorn Co. Gen. Society in a Confederate Pension roll book.) Auditor of Public Accounts Jackson, Miss., Nov. 24, 1915 Hon. C.M. Hinton, Chancery Clerk Corinth, Miss., Dear Mr. Hinton, I am in receipt of your letter of the 23rd inst. with reference to the omission of Mrs. Sarah E. Smith's name from the pension list for the year 1915. Her name appears on the Alcorn County Pension Roll for the year 1914; and unless her name was omitted by order of the Pension Board, you should add it for this year, making payment of it in the manner that was suggested to you in the last letter to you with reference to such matters. It seems that she was not transferred to your roll for this year. It was not the transferred pensioners alone that your deputy omitted from the roll. It was just some few errors that were made. As usual it is difficult to determine how they occurred, but they did; and I will be glad to help you out. If I were going to be in the X class too, I would do more for you. In the meantime have petition made by the County Pension Board for their names to be added to the roll and the pensioners paid-see laws of 1914 with reference for this matters. Yours very truly, D.L. Thompson, Auditor
