I need help in locating some lost relatives by the last name of GOWAN (S). Susan Howell married Daniel Gowan (s) in Madison Co., TN at Jackson on 12 Feb 1878. It is believed that they had 4 /5 daughters, and were located in or near Corinth Mississippi. A newspaper clipping from the Fredericktown, Democrat News in the early 1900's verifies this: "Uncle Jim Howell & his granddaughters, the Misses Gowan of Mississippi were visiting relatives and home folks this week. Many years ago an elderly cousin told me that Dan & Susan Gowan(s) moved to Corinth. Can ANYONE lend me any assistance? Many thanks for ANY help!!!! |

I am looking for information about my grandfather, Arthur Frank Ayers, and his parents (?),Frank Ayers and Anna Love Ayers. Frank and Anna Ayers were supposed to be living in Rienzi, MS before Arthur Frank Ayers was born on 2-19-1891. His parents left him with a relative family, Dilday, which raised him in TN. This was confirmed in the 1900 TN census for Weakly County. Rumor has it that only one Ayers family was living in Rienzi, MS at the time of Arthur Frank Ayers' birth. My husband's grandfather was James PETERS. He was born in Jackson County, Alabama. He supposedly married Martha CHOATE in Alcorn County and had at least two children with her, including a child named Victoria. Martha died and he married Geneva Phillips WADE on 21 July 1899 in Corinth. (Geneva had married Franklin WADE 11 Sep 1897 in Corinth. Apparently Mr. Wade died before she married James Peters). Mr. Peters was a railroad worker and he & Geneva had nine children. Mr. Peters died between 1910-1920 and Geneva moved with her children to Bolivar, Hardeman, Tenn in about 1929. Geneva had a brother named Herman (or Harmon) PHILLIPS who moved to Texas and a sister named Eva or Geneva PHILLIPS who married a NUTTALS or NUCKOLS and moved to Arizona. Clara WILCHER's maiden name was possibly PETERS and she may have been a sister to James. Clara was probably married to a Phillips before she married William T. WILCHER on 24 June 1985 in Corinth.
