Query 506
Surnames: HATHCOCK TALLEY
Submitter: Barbra Jean (Ray1693@aol.com)
Date: 17 Feb 2002

Would some kind soul PLEASE do a lookup at the county court house, for a marriage record?
My husband's parents were always assumed to have been married in Lauderdale Co., TN, but last September, I made a trip down there to do some research, and found that they had not been married in Lauderdale Co. I then went to all the bordering counties; ie, Tipton, Dyer, Haywood, Crockett and was also not able to locate a marriage license/bond for them.
The court clerks in both Haywood and Crockett counties, told me to try Alcorn Co., MS, as that was a very popular place 'to run off to' back then.
At the time, I thought this upsurd, but the more I though about it, the more I can see why they would run off. His father was nine years younger than his mother; his mother was college educated vs an eight grade education for his father; his mother was from a 'comfortable ' family vs his father being a dirt poor farmer. (Love was bind even then).
His mother died when he was only 3 years old (1940), and his father died in 1970. All aunts/uncles are also deceased, as are grandparents. No one to help us.
His sister has her mother's wedding band, and engraved inside of it is the date 7/3/33 (July 3, 1933), and we are assuming that this at least was their marriage date. (The first child was born 8 months 29 days after that date. Everyone knows that first babies are always premies.) :-)
I gave up years ago, keeping skeletons in closets, they do no good to anyone. The truth shall set you free!!!
The couple was: William Raymond HATHCOCK & Lillian Gertrude TALLEY
I would love to have a copy of the license/bond if you are lucky enough to locate it for me, and I will gladly pay the cost involved.
Once again, the couple was: William Raymond HATHCOCK & Lillian Gertrude TALLEY
