Seeking info on my grandparents, Roy A. Sloan and Alma Glover/Springer Sloan who were married Sept 1925 in Booneville and resided there in Alcorn and surrounding areas. Alma's father John H. Vaughn is buried at Jumpertown Cemetery. She also had Glover relatives who lived at Baldwyn, MS at one time. Her mother's people were from TN. The Sloans had a farm there in Rienze for many years. I am looking for any information or a picture of Arthur LeRoy Huff. He went by "Roy". He was born in 1900 or 1901. He died at age 28 from WWII wound of shrapnel that touched his brain. He died in Memphis, TN, but was from Alcorn Co. His father was Adolpus M. Huff. He went by A.M Huff and was on the 1910 census with his second wife Julia. My mother has never had a picture of her father except one when he was 7 yrs old. I would love to present one to her. Adolphus was married to Crissie Wilson on April 7, 1883 Alcorn, MS. I am interested in any information about the family of Richard and Lucretia Bryant Strickland, husband and wife who were residents of either Tishomingo or Alcorn Counties. I have been told they are buried in Haynie Cemetery in Alcorn Miss. Their sons Benjamin Perry Strickland and Edmund fought in the Civil War. I think Edmund must have been killed in battle. Julia Ann Strickland,the widow of Benjamin Perry Strickland applied for a Civil War Widow's Pension. A daughter of Richard and Lucretia, Mary Polly married John Streetman and lived and died in Alcorn. Richard Strickland Jr, married Martha Elizabeth McEwen and they also lived in Alcorn Mississippi. I am searching for information or relations of a Roberta Jones. b. in Corinth, date unknown. D. ca 1897 either in Corinth or Fort Smith Sebastin Co. AR. She left two young children, Russell Jones b. ca 1890 Corinth d. at age 15 place unknown but believed to be in Sebastin CO. AR and Norma Ann Jones b. 14 June 1892 Corninth. Both children were raised by two different families, however it is believed they were not adopted by them. Would anyone know who they were. Norma married in Fort Smith to William Young Skelton. She died in Belleville, Ill on Mar. 8, 1928 and is buried in the Walnut Hill Cem. there. Is there anyone left in Corinth who would know Roberta. Did she die in Fort Smith. My great grandfather was married in Alcorn County Mississippi in or about 1857 to Sarah L. Griggs. Joseph W. White is his name and he was born in 1836 in Virgiia to George W. White. We believe the family was all living in Itawamba County, MS in 1850 and 1860 and probably migrated from Alabama. George W. White was born in 1803 in Virginia also. They had the following children: William White Joseph W. White James White Francis White (female) Joseph W. My ancestor, John W. Crowder, was listed on the 1860 and 1870 Census as living in Tippah County. I know that he sold his land in 1871-72 and moved to Texas. I have been unable to find any records about him in Tippah Co and was wondering if his area became part of Alcorn, Benton or Union Counties. Looking for connections to the decendents of Dr. William Griffin Gray of Alcorn and Tishomingo Counties (1850's-1904) Settled in the Shady Grove area on the county line between those two counties.
