Looking for any information on a ZACHARIAH W. ARNOLD, b. 1798 South Carolina, d. 185? Prentiss Co., Mississippi, and his wife CASANDER GRAY, b. 1805, d. 1855 d. Prentiss Co., Mississippi. Both are found living with their daughter ELVIRA JANE ARNOLD (b. 1831 SC) and her husband, William Davenport in what is now Alcorn County in the 1850 State Census. Zachariah's other children were: JOHN FREDERICK ARNOLD, b. 1828 Abbeville, SC; WILLIAM H. ARNOLD, b. 1829 Abbeville, SC; and THOMAS ARNOLD, b. 1838. John F. Arnold married Julia A. Fields and William H. Arnold married Martha Clausel. John F. Arnold and the Davenport family left Mississippi around 1876 and moved to Texas. The rest of the family remained in that part of Mississippi. I am trying to find out if Zachariah had any relatives in that part of Mississippi. Any information regarding this family would be appreciated. |

We are searching for information about the Alcorn Manufacturing Co. owned by Mr. Reid and his wife, Lou Carter Reid. It was sold about 1900. We are ultimately hoping to find information about Lou Carter's father, S.R. Carter. We hope to find where he was b uried in 1852. We have a handwritten letter, that to the best of our ability we read the cemetery as Tribritching Creek Cemetery. S.R.'s wife was Elizabeth McDaniel. She lived in the Shiloh Battleground during the Civil War. She moved to Delta County, TX with her children after S.R.'s death. Any help will be apprecited. Thank you. |

My gg grandparents, Fenton B. HALL and Ruth A. CLARK lived in Kossuth, Alcorn Co, MS, & are bur. at Wheeler Grove Baptist Church Cem. in Kossuth. I have some information on their desc. & his ancestors: nothing on her ancestors or siblings. Ruth's mother was a MILLER whose family was traced back to Pres. John ADAMS. My father said that two ladies in MS had documentation. He didn't know who they were. I have assumed they were daughters or granddaughters of Fenton and Ruth (CLARK) HALL. Their children were (may not be correct order): Clark; Clint (twin), Matthew (twin); Eliza "Aunt Liza" m. Richard DELMONT or DILWORTH; Elizabeth "Aunt Lizzie" m. Valeria Rebecca "Val ley" HUNTINGTON on 9-3-1867 in Pontotoc, MS; Palina "Aunt Pina" b. 6-15-1841, d. 5-3-1925, Kossuth, MS; Virgil Miller, b. 1852, d. 6-1-1914, Kossuth, MS, bur. Wheeler Grove Bapt. According to records in the Tennessee State Archives and Maury County Tennessee, my great-great-grandfather, Edward Charles (or Charles Edward) HOFFMAN, died in a Corinth hospital on 28 April 1862. He was a member of the 48th (Nixon's) Tennessee Infantry Reg iment, which had been formed of remnants of the 48th (Voorhies') Tennessee Infantry Regiment and the 54th Tennessee Infantry Regiment. He is not listed as buried in the Corinth National Cemetery. Are there any other cemeteries in or around Corinth that have Confederate soldiers buried in them? |

ESAU WASHINGTON SANDEFER (my great-great-grandfather)a confederate soldier from Arkansas was at CORINTH, MS, on May 30, 1863, and is believed to have died there. He is not listed in the Corinth National Cemetary List. Can any of you Alcorn County Historians and/or Researchers give me a clue on how I might be able to find burial site. It is possible that he was evacuated with the ill and died on June 1 or 2 somewhere else in MS. Although he was living in AR when he enlisted, he was born, married and died in MS . |
