  • In 1954, in response to the Communist threat of the times, President Eisenhower encouraged Congress to add the words "under God," creating the 31-word pledge we say today. Bellamy's daughter objected to this alteration. Today it reads:
    "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

    Welcome to Laudderdale County MS-AHGP Lauderdale County was formed in 1833 out of lands of the Choctaw Cession of 1833. Land records are available from 1837. Probate records are available from 1849. Marriage records date back as early as 1839 although most are post-1870. Court records are available as early as 1856. Its county seat is Meridian.

    Your submissions are welcome. If you have access to an old family Bible which you would transcribe, old deeds that you would transcribe or abstract, old diaries and letters that you would transcribe or scan, old family photographs that you would scan and submit, or other records, we'd love for you to become a contributor to Lauderdale County MS-AHGP site.
