RIVERS (b. 1836 AL). William later married Mary Jane Ellis and moved to Lauderdale Co., MS where several other children were born: Mary Ann M. RIVERS, John H. RIVERS, George RIVERS, James Henry RIVERS, Lela C. RIVERS, Delia RIVERS, and Thomas E. RIVERS. I would love to discuss this line with descendants.

My gg g-f John Odom b 1802 Ga d 1835 Lauderdale county, only lived to his early 30's. He was married to MARY COPELAND and they had several children--John E Odom, Mary M Odom, William A Odom, Eleanor Odom and Elizabeth Odom.
After John died, Mary remarried in Dec 1844 to TRIPPE POPE and they had children: John W Pope, James K Pope, Joanah T Pope, Thomas Pope and Edwena Pope. Trippe showed up as late as the 1850 census but only Mary and children show up through the 1880 census. An interested in any cemetery records for the ODOM-POPE burials along with any other data that may come to light.

On January 27 I sent the following querie

I am trying to find out if there were any Skiles living in or near Meridian, MS. My father remembers reading an article in the local newspaper (Meridian) shortly after WW II about a Cortia Skiles (female) that was accidently shot. She did survive. He thinks this might be a child or a grandchild of his Uncle William Skiles who was born February 28, 1859 in Dent CO, MO. When William was about 6 or 7 his family moved to Alexander CO, IL. William grew and became a traveiling minister and salesman. I have not heard anything from you, and I nooticed it not listed in you home page queries.
Did you receive this querie or not? If so please let me know. I really would like to have it submitted.

Interested in contacting descendants of William B. KEITH (1806-1879) and his wife, Elminy Frances EZELL (1821-1886), who appeared on the 1840, 1850, and 1860 Lauderdale county census rolls. Frances was born in Summit, Pike County, MS and was the daughter of Benjamin EZELL and Rebecca MORRIS.
The William B. KEITH family lived in the Chunkey area of Lauderdale county with property in both Lauderdale and Newton counties. Children include: Rankin KEITH who married into the SHANNON family; Land Amanda KEITH (1841-1900) who married (1)H.W. DENTON & (2)John DENTON; Rachel Elvira KEITH (1843 - ) who married John Rice SANDERFORD (1841-1923, Bell County, TX); Lane Cirvilla Jane KEITH (1846-1904,Meehan, Lauderdale County) who married William CURRIE; Manasseh Missouri KEITH (b.abt 1848 - ) who married Claudis HALL; Enon Martha KEITH (b.abt 1850 - d.about 1880/1889, Columbus, Lowndes County, MS) who married (1)Robert E. WILSON and (2)Thomas A. BENTON; Elarner Hasseltine KEITH (b.about 1854- ) who married Richard B. DAVID (DAVIS?); and Frances Virginia KEITH (b.abt 1856) who may have married B.H. CARPENTER.
Descendants of the DENTON family married into the HEGWOOD, SIMMONS, BUNCH & THRASH families. The SANDERFORD family moved to Nolanville, Bell County, TX and married into BACKSTROM family. Descendants of the CURRIE family married into the GALLOWAY, GORDON, OSBORNE (MOORE, RICHARDSON), HALL, & JOINER families;
The Thomas A. BENTON family settled in Columbus, Lowndes County, MS, and married into the CHEVES, GASTON & MATHEWS FAMILY.

I am researching the following families in Lauderdale Co.: WHITLOCK, JAMES, AND BREWER. The family of ASA WHITLOCK moved to Lauderdale Co. from Choctaw Co. AL during the l800's. The THOMAS JAMES family also moved from Choctaw Co. AL into Clarke Co. MS during the 1800's and some of the family moved then into Lauderdale Co. The family of WILLIAM BREWER also moved into Clarke Co. and in to Lauderdale Co. during the 1800's. I will gladly share information with anyone else researching these families.

SURNAME; PLUMMER; JONES
William H. PLUMMER (b. 1816 NC) and Mary Lavinia JONES (b. 1829 AL) married before 1847. They may have lived in AL (Perry, Co. or Dallas Co.) but moved to Lauderdale Co., MS by 1847. Children were: Sarah Jane PLUMMER, Mary "Mollie" BUTLER PLUMMER, William Thomas PLUMMER, and John Franklin PLUMMER. I will be glad to share genealogy with descendants of these people!

Ely Thomas MILLER (b. 1810 GA) married Catherine H. (HALL?) RAINEY (b. abt 1815 GA) in Upson Co., GA in 1830. They moved to Lauderdale Co., MS before 1840 and had children: William Thomas MILLER, Jeremiah D. MILLER, Edmund E. MILLER, Sarah "Sally" C. C. MILLER, John A. MILLER, Phebe Ann MILLER, Ely H. MILLER, Ann RAINEY MILLER, Mary E. MILLER, and Charles W. MILLER.
James MILLER and Charles GAUSE MILLER were in Kemper Co., MS in the 1850 Census. They were next door to my Ely Thomas MILLER in Lauderdale Co., MS by 1860 and seem to be related in some way.

SURNAMES; HODGES; HILLSON
Robert HODGES (probably from NC) with children: Allen, James and Cely Ann HODGES HILLSON lived in Newberry Co.,SC before moving to Jones Co., GA where James married Tempy RANDLE bout 1811. The HODGES family moved to Autauga Co., AL before moving to Sumter Co., AL where Robert HODGES died in about 1843 and Allen HODGES soon after in about 1844. Allen's son, Amos HODGES, with his son, Elisha Allen and family moved on into Kemper Co., and Lauderdale Cos., MS just across the state line. I will be glad to share genealogy with descendants of these people.

Asa PARKER (b. abt 1775 NC, d. about 1855 MS) married Phoebe WOOD/S (b. 1786 GA) about 1803. They are listed in the Tax Digests in Jefferson Co., GA until about 1820 near the WOOD/S family. They had children: Asa PARKER, Jr., William PARKER, John WOODS PARKER, Solomon A. PARKER (b.1815 GA), Othiel PARKER and maybe others. They moved to Monroe Co., AL about 1820's and all except Asa, Jr. moved to Lauderdale and Newton Cos., MS by 1850. I would be glad to share genealogy with descendants of these people.

George WADE KING (b. 1839 NC)(d.1923 MS) said he was born in NC, raised along the Great PeeDee River and went to Lauderdale Co., MS with the HOBGOOD family before 1862 when he joined the CSA. His death certificate says his father was George KING, born in NC. There must be a WADE connection there, too! He married Ann RAINEY MILLER in 1866 in Lauderdale Co., MS and had children: Charley M. KING, John L. KING, Geneva KING, James Ely KING, Lorena Ouida KING, Davie E. KING, George Rainey KING, and Walter J. KING.

Looking for information on Smith Scroggins family who were in Corinth, Mississippi in the 1860's. He was in the Miss. volunteers CSA in Civil War. Killed in Battle of Chickamauga, GA in 1863. I am searching for information about my g-grandparents, Henry McGHEE and Mattie E. SMITH. They were married on 9 Jan 1889, in Meridian, Lauderdale Co. She was born c. 1864 in Alabama, according to census records. They had two children, Langdon and Helen Powe. I know next to nothing more about these two and the only other possible connection is L.C.Smith who was a witness at their marriage and a Frank McGhee living in the same city who was probably related to Henry. Am searching for the descendents of Owen Kendall [OK]and Nettie Belle Pitts Stewart. They lived in Meridan, Lauderdale, Miss. until their deaths not so long ago. They had one daughter, Helen, who was postmistress of Bailey/Baily, Miss. I would like to get in touch with Helen, if at all possible. Please e-mail me if you know how to get hold of her. Nettie Belle was born in Copiah Co, MS, and was the daughter of Cicero and Martha Jane White Pitts. Martha and Cicero were divorced and she married a Nathan Davis. Martha died on 1 July 1931, I believe in Hazlehurst or Crystal Springs, MS. Have been unable to trace her parents, can't get her death certificate, or anything to help me trace her.

HOLYFIELD/BYNUM I am looking for information on Gilbert HOLYFIELD b abt 1822 and Martha BYNUM b abt 1826. They were on the LAUDERDALE Co, MS 1850 census. (No.829/842 on the census record). HOLYFIELD is found spelled many ways, HOLEYFIELD, HOLLYFIELD, HOLIFIELD, etc. I am trying to find where Gilbert & Martha HOLYFIELD were married. I have check Newton Co, MS. I am looking for a Gt.grandfather Henry H. Hopgood/Hobgood. I believe that he belongs to the Hopgood/Hobgood Family from Lauderdale MS. He is with this family in 1850 in Anscon Co., NC. I cannot find them in the l860 census, but think that they were in MS. He came to Mo and married Eliza Oldham. They moved to Ala. or MS and she died. He asked Mo family to come get the four children and was never heard of again. This would have been somewhere around 1885. I have looked for years and really need some help. These were my grandparents who were married and died in Meridian, MS, in Lauderdale Co. I believe that my grandfather also was born in Meridian and perhaps my grandmother was born in Mobile, AL. The marriage would have been at St. Patrick's Catholic Church and would have been in the early 1900's.
