
Leslie O. Eckford

Born: December 10, 1896 Died: March 28, 1952 in Lauderdale County, MS Following a lengthy illness, Leslie O. Eckford, 55, a veteran of 2 wars, died Friday at 5:20 p.m. at the home of his father-in-law Robert L. Pickett, Meridian, and Rt.3. Mr. Eckford, who served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during WWI, again answered the call at the outbreak of WWII, as a Lt. Commander. He served in the Merchant Marines. The deceased operated a trailer park in Cincinnati, Ohio, until ill health caused his retirement three months ago. Since that time he has been residing on Rt. 3. His wife, Mrs. Pauline Pickett Eckford; mother, Mrs. Rochelle Eckford, Portsmouth, Va.; and brother, Jason L. Eckford, Charlottesville, VA, survive the former serviceman. Services will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. from the Mount Horeb Baptist Church, the Rev. W.H. Henderson officiating and assisted by Ed Grayson. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Pall Bearers: Roy L. Griffin, Ray A. Covington, Herman Usher, James Walker, Julia Pigford, and Laverne McDonald. The body will remain until Sunday at 8:30 p.m. |
