ARREST DRIVER OF AUTOMOBILE AFTER CRASH WITH TRUCK CONTAINING FIVE; BRING VICTIMS TO MERIDIAN
Lawrence Smith, 18-year-old married man of East End, was killed and four others who were riding in the truck were injured in an automobile accident, which occurred on the Causeyville road near the Long Creek Church Thursday morning. The injured are J.T. Lowery owner and driver of the truck, Mrs. Lowery, their child, all of East End, and J.B. Suttles, of Causeyville. They were taken to the Matty Hersee Hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been determined. The accident occurred when the truck and car driven by Dr. Atwood, of Causeyville, collided. Dr. Atwood has been placed under arrest. He and his child, who were in the car, escaped injury. His widow, Mrs. Lillian Smith, his mother, Mrs. Daisy Smith and one brother, Lawson Smith and Roy Hulett Smith his son all of Meridian, survives the deceased. The remains were carried to the home of his mother, 130--5th avenue with funeral services set for Friday at 4:30 P.M. from the Seventh Avenue Methodist Church. The Rev. W.H. Lane was to officiate with interment to be made in Magnolia Cemetery. W.K. Prince, state highway patrolman, and Deputy Sheriff Ford Vance made investigation of the accident. The Ambulance Service Company brought the injured to the hospital.
The Rex Wrecker service attended the damaged machines. Funeral services for Lawrence Smith, who was killed in an automobile accident Thursday, will be held from the Wesley Methodist Church Friday at 4:30 p.m. with the Rev. W.H. Lane, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery. Active Pallbearers: W.D. Lynch, Sherman Anders, B. Marcum, Jim Thompson, Claiborne and C. Burt. Honorary Pallbearers: J.T. Lowery, J.B. Suttles, P. Peters, F. Lollie, Sam and Roy Butler. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of services.
