1836 -- 1852

Be it remembered that on the second Monday of February 1840 being the 10 th. day of said month there was began and held at the Court house in the town of Jacinto , a cession of the Board of Police for said county, proclamation being made as the manner at hand, there was present the Honorable John C. Carter precedent of the Board and John Langley, Robert H. Hicks and James H. Robertson members then of, a constitutional majority being present Board preceded to business

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that there be an Election held on Monday the 15 day of March next at the different precincts in Tishomingo for the purpose of electing a member of the Board of Police for the fifth district and that the Sheriff open and hold the same after having given thirty days notice there of.

( Note # this paragraph was marked out but included here for research propose ) Ordered by the board that Jacob Haigh be appointed overseer on the Tuscumbia road from the gate of John C. Carter to the State line and that further oversees on said road divide the hands equally between them according to the ____ required on each. Ordered further that William E. Newel be appointed overseer from the gate of John C. Carter to the forks of Jacinto road and Pontitoc road.

Issued- Ordered further that Lewallin Patrick be appointed overseer on the Tuscumbia road from the forks of the Jacinto and Pontitoc road to the Town of Jacinto and that he have the hands of....

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Thomas McDougle be appointed overseer on the road from the state line near William C. McKinnys to the Natches Trace.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Elias Rinehart be appointed overseer on the Jacinto to Rodens Creek and that he have the hands of...

It is ordered by the Court that Jacob Hicks be appointed overseer on the Ripley road from Rodens Creek to the crossing of Estis road and that he have the same hands formerly appointed to him.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Samuel Flake be appointed overseer on the Ripley road from the crossing of Estis road to the County line. And that he have the hands which were appointed th James Mackey the former overseer.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Conrad Rinehart and Isaac Pitts be allowed the sum of one hundred and twenty seven dollars and fifty cents for constructing the causeway in the Tuscumbia bottom on the Ripley road out of any moneys in the County Treasury arising from the interest of the three per cent fund not otherwise appropriated.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Austin C. Butler be appointed overseer on the Farmington road from the Town of Jacinto to the top of the hill South of the five mile branch and that he have the hands of....

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that William C. Ch**liss be allowed the sum of four dollars for two days service as clerk at the general election at the precinct at John C. Carters, out of any moneys in the county Treasury not otherwise appropriated.

Issued- It is ordered by the Court that Hiram Burton be allowed the sum of four dollars for two days service as clerk at the general election at the percent at Jacinto, out of any moneys in the county Treasury not otherwise appropriated.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Joseph Wiat be appointed overseer on the Nashoba road from the Town of Jacinto to the district old road and that he have the hands of...

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Felix G. Roden be allowed the sum of one hundred and forty dollars for building a bridge across Tuscumbia Creek on the road leading from Troy to Farmington out of any moneys in the County Treasury arising from the interest of the three percent fund not otherwise appropriated. Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Samuel C. Jones and William Null be appointed overseers on the Eastport and Fulton road from Eastport to New Warrenton and that they divide the distance of each and the hands between them that were apportioned to the former overseer with all that have removed in the same bounds.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Francis Waters be appointed on the district Old road from the State line to Petty's road and that he have the same hands that were apportioned to Henry Counce the former overseer with all others that have removed in the same bounds.

Issued- It is ordered by the Court that Daniel Peel be appointed overseer on the District Old road from Petty's road to the Turnpike gate and that he have the same hands that were apportioned to Nathan McAfee the former overseer.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Jacob Haigh be appointed overseer on the Tuscumbia Road from the Gate of John C. Carter to the county line.

And it is ordered further that William E. Newel be appointed overseer on the Tuscumbia road from the forks of the Jacinto and Pontotoc road to the gate of John C. Carter.

And that they have the same hands that were apportioned to William Moore and A.B. Emerson the former overseers.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that James Robertson be appointed overseer on the Tuscumbia and Pontotoc road from the forks of the road near the Bridge on Twenty Mile Creek to Stephens's Trace and that he have the hands of....

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that James Mells ( Wells ) be appointed overseer on the same from there to the house of Moore F. Carters and that he have the hands of....

and it is further ordered that William Moore be appointed overseer from there to the forks of the Jacinto & Pontotoc road and that he have the hands of....

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that George W. Brown be appointed overseer on the Pontotoc road from the town of Jacinto to the house of Wiley Swaney and that he have the same hands that were apportioned to James Berry the former overseer.

And that Robert Deavenport be appointed overseer from there to the Bridge across Twenty Mil Creek and that he have the hands that were appointed to Harrison W. Elder the former overseer.

And that Allen G. Aikins be appointed overseer from there to County line and that he have his same hands.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Ephraim D. Reed be appointed overseer on the Eastport and Fulton road from the town of New Warrenton to the house of Ephraim D. Reed and that he have the same hands that were apportioned to the former overseer.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that James Bell be appointed overseer on the road leading from Farmington to Wolfs Farry from the town of Farmington to the County line.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that James Hamlin be appointed overseer on the road leading from the town of Troy to Farmington from the Town of Troy to the bridge across Tuscumbia Creek near the mouth of Clear Creek.

And that Henry George be appointed overseer on the same road from there to the Town of Farmington.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Thomas Copeland be appointed overseer on the Farmington and Ripley road from where the same bounds as the road to Troy to Tuscumbia Creek.

And that Miles Thomas be appointed overseer from there to the house of John Swains.

And that James Bellerchart ? be appointed overseer on the same road from there to the County line.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that John A. Baker be appointed overseer on the road from Farmington to Samuel Chambers from the town of Farmington to the State line.

William F. Young be appointed overseer from there to the TurnPike

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Walton H. McKinny be appointed overseer on the Farmington and Jacinto road from the town of Farmington to the house of Josiah Ramage.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Richard Smith , Green D. Robbins and David W. Hyneman be appointed apportioners of the hands to the different overseers in the Second Police District.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that all overseers of the Roads within the County of Tishomingo who have not handed in their resignations as such, be appointed for the next year.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that the Sheriff open and hold an election on the 14 March next in the Second Justices District for a constable in the place (of) Johnson Martham removed and in the Sixth and Eighth district for the election of a Justice of the Peace in each. Occasioned by the removal of Matthew Gage and Edmund Welch.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Richard Smith, Isaac Nesmith and James K. Townsend each be allowed the sum of four dollars for two days service as Judge of the election at the Precinct at the town of Farmington at the General Elections in 1839.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Elias Rinehart be allowed the sum of four dollars for two days service as Judge at the general Elections held in November 1839 at the precinct in the Town of Jacinto.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Silas C. Byram be allowed the sum of four dollars for two days service as judge of the general election in the year of 1839 at the precinct at Pittsburg.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Bazzle L. Lindsey be allowed the sum of four dollars for two days service as clerk at the general Elections at the precinct at Pittsburg.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Shelby Newman be allowed the sum of four dollars for two days service as Judge at the general election at the precinct at the house of Samuel C. Jones.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Sion (Siow) Pace be allowed the sum of four dollars for two days service as clerk at the General elections two days at the precinct at John C. Carters.( posted on the side April 11, 1840 )

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that that Thomas Blessingame be allowed the sum of four dollars for two days service as Judge at the general election at the precinct at the house of Samuel C.Jones..( posted on the side Feb.18, 1840 )

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Chisly D. Key be allowed the sum of five dollars for carrying a duplicate return of the General election in November 1839 from Jacinto to Pontotoc as required by the Governor.( posted on the side Feb.18, 1840 )

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that John Buttrill be allowed the sum of thirty dollars for his service as returning officer at the general elections in the year of 1839.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Daniel B. Harrison be allowed the sum of four dollars for two days service as clerk at the general election in the year 1839 at the Precinct at the Town of Jacinto.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that William B. Frost be allowed the sum of four dollars for two days service as returning officer at the November Election in the year 1839 at the precinct at the town of Jacinto.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Benjamin J. Hagler be allowed the sum of four dollars for two days service as returning officer at the general election on 1839 at Powels old Place.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Jessee Sutton be allowed the sum of four dollars for two days service as returning officer at the General election in 1839 from the Precinct at the house of Samuel C. Jones. ( Issued or paid Feb 18, 1840 )

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Abner E. Pate be allowed the sum of one hundred and sixty six dollars for building a bridge across Twenty Mile Creek on the Pontotoc road out of any moneys the County Treasury not otherwise appropriated arising from three percent fund. (Issued Feb. 11, 1840)

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that John Reeves be allowed the sum of four dollars for two days service as returning Judge of the election in the year 1839 .( Issued Mar. 11, 1840 )

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that the overseers of James H. Patton and Ezekiel Key unite with their hands and build a bridge across Hinkles Creek on the Troy and Cotton Gin Port road and they be furnished with a copy of this order.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Martin Savage, John Reese and Thomas J. Knight be appointed commissioners of Jacob Hinkle, Ezekiel Key. and James H. Patton & E. Sorrell and Joseph Alexander , agree to the grade of each road and the labor required on each, and that the clerk furnish one of said commissioners with a copy of this order.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that William Rushing the County Treasurer be allowed the privilege of taking a note out of the County Treasury on John Thomas for the sum of Seventy six dollars as a part payment for his service as Treasurer, and further that he be allowed to take any other notes in the Treasury given on Lots in the Town of Jacinto that may be consentive between the parties equal to the amount due him.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that a County Tax of fifty per cent on the State Tax and a special Tax equal to the County Tax be levied on all taxable property within the County of Tishomingo for the year 1840 & a Tax of one fourth on the State Tax.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that the County Treasure pay over to William B. Frost his note on John Payne amounting to about three hundred and eighteen dollars as part payment on a claim the County is due him for building the Jail in the town of Jacinto.( Issued Feb. 11, 1840)

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that James Box, Chisly D. Key and William Bowens be appointed overseers of the Poor for the year 1840 for the County of Tishomingo.

Issued- It is ordered by the Board that Thomas Pate be allowed the sum of Thirty three dollars for advertising the way in which the Justices beats and Police district were laid off & for writing two days for the Board. ( Issued $11.35 Feb. 11, 1840 Balance Feb. 18, 1840 )

And then the Board adjourned until the second Monday in May next having been in cession two days.
