Seeking any info about THOMAS and CATHERINE GARY. Both were born in South Carolina and presumably died in Tishomingo Co. We don't know the birth or death dates, but they were probably born by 1800. They migrated from South Carolina to Alabama by 1837, and then to Mississippi after that. Their daughter Martha Nelson GARY was born 24 May 1818 in SC, married Obediah CLAY on 27 July 1837 in Greene Co., AL. Thank you for any help you can give us.

Perry Whitfield Kay and wife Elizabeth "Betsy" Hanks came to Tishomingo County and had children; Emma Elizabeth (b 1854) my line; Martha H. "Mattie" (b 1856); and John W. (born 1859). Emma Elizabeth married John Thomas Phillips; John married Sally McDougal; M artha married James N. Grissom and is listed in the 1880 Tish Co Census living with his parents, Thomas M. Grissom. I cannot find anything on this couple. Anyone researching the Grisham/Gresham/Grissom lines that might connect? There are only three such fami lies listed on the 1880 Census; one Gresham; one Grisham and one Grissom. Any help will be appreciated.

John and Sarah Davis migrated from old York County, SC to a northern Mississippi county in the 1830's or 1840's. They had a 2 sons Marshall and Lawson. They also had 3 daughters. Lawson Bedford Davis was my gggrandfather. He was back in SC in 1860 and mar ried Mary Louisa McDowell. In 1861, he enlisted in the Confederate Army. On the tax roles of 1887, I have seen a Mrs. Sarah Davis listed in Tishomingo County, as well as M.M. Davis. Could this be Lawson's mother and brother? There was a John Davis who was enlisted in the Iuka Rifles in the Civil War. Maybe this was Lawson's fath er? How do I get more information? An old family bible says that this family lived near Ripley, MS. I can't find any familiar family names in Tippah County, but have seen several in Alcorn and Tishomingo counties. My father's name was Robert Carroll Davis. Carroll was said to be passed down as an old family name. I've seen this name among some of the Davises of theses counties. Any possible connections or just coincidences? How do I find out? Any help or advise appreciated. Thanks

I am looking for any leads on the Nathaniel Porter family. Nathaniel was born 8 Dec 1831. He married an Elizabeth Allen. She may have been part Indian. They married about 1865. Their oldest daughter Fannie Elizabeth Porter married Isaac Jefferson Holt (J r.) of Iuka, Tishomingo county. Nathaniel and Elizabeth may have married in Tishomingo county. Unfortunately I don't have much information on them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thier dau. Samantha Louise m. Willaim Gordon LIVINGSTON on 05-DEC-1900 in same co. Another dau . Maudinie m. a George, (Jorge) PHARR (Farr). Possible date on that is 03-DEC-1899 in Itawamba Co. William and Samantha raised their family in Prentiss Co., but I am told the PHARR's lived mostly in Tishimingo CO. Could W.A. (Billy) and Mary WADDLE be found in Tishimingo CO.? The family was orginally from South Carolin but RIAL appears in the 1830 Census in Shelby County Alabama and the 1840 Census in Jackson County Alabama. In the 185 0 Census he appeared in Tishamingo County, Mississippi. The family then moved on th Wood County, Texas sometime prior to 1860. Information of any nature would be appreciated.

HONNOLL -- the minutes of the North Mississippi Conference of the Methodist E. Church South for 1912, there appears a obituary for the Rev. JAMES WISEMAN HONNOLL who served in the Tishomingo Avengers during the Civil War. He was pastor of the ME Church in Holly Springs and President of Franklin/Malone College and is buried in Holly Springs. His obituary states that he left detailed notes of his life for his descendents. Does anyone know what became of his Bible and those notes?
