Query 650
Surnames: CUNNINGHAM BRITTON HOWELL CURTIS
Submitter: Margaret A. Butler (margaretbutler@yahoo.com)
Date: 16 Jun 1999

Looking for anyone who descends from any of the following individuals: Wesley CUNNINGHAM, said to be born ca. 1816. His son, Wesley Cunningham, b. ca. 1834-36 and who married Affie BRITTON, dau. of William Britton, formerly of Old Tishomingo County. Wesley Cunningham (Jr.) is also believed to be the same individual known as William M., William Mack, W.W., or W.M. Cunningham who also married Affie Britton ca. 1856 and who resided in/near Savannah, Hardin Co., TN during the 1860s. LDS records indicate someone s ubmitted information concerning "Wesley Cunningham," but my own information, which includes military papers, lists the other varied name spelling. William/Wesley ("William") could have had three names, I'm sure. Affie was born May 25 about 1837(?). She and William had several children; among them, John Wesley "J.W." Cunningham (my great-grandfather), b. October 1857 Hardin Co., TN, as well as Frances "Fanny" Cunningham who married a Mr. Howell (had dau. Bessie) and ! the Howells later resided at Corinth. Other children of Affie and William included: Rebecca, Emily, William Mack (who married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Curtis), Mary, Jenny and Sarah. Affie and husband sold their land (a record of that sale is in the Hardin Co., TN land deed book and was filed about December 1880), and at that point, I lose them. It is said that William had red hair, and that he was estranged from his father. If you have any information about any of these people, please contact me.

Query 644
Surnames: LEDBETTER FARRIS BISHOP
Submitter: Brenda Rayman (brayman@utk.edu)
Date: 08 Jun 1999

LEDBETTER/FARRIS/BISHOP - TN/MS Family Oral History vs. Documentation: According to family oral history, William Riley Ledbetter was married to Martha Farris. However, William Riley Ledbetter's marriage to Martha A. Bishop is documented (4 October 1864, McNairy County, TN). To add to the confusion, William Riley Ledbetter's fi rst wife was Parilee ? (possibly Farris). 1. Was Parilee Farris (daughter of Jane Young/Commodore Farris, McNairy County, TN) the first wife of William Riley Ledbetter (son of Elizabeth ? and Henry Clay Ledbetter (McNairy County, TN)? (Parilee ? was the mother of his two eldest daughters, Mar garet A. and Mary Ledbetter.) 2. Which Martha A. Bishop was William Riley Ledbetter's second wife (1870 McNairy County, TN; 1880 Lee County, MS; 1900 Union County, MS) and the mother of James D., John Riley, Rosetta, Samuel T., George H., Dock Smith, and Dora Ledbetter? A. Martha A. Bishop - daughter of Harriet Joyner/Theodrick E. Bishop (Hardeman County, TN/Tippah County, MS? B. Martha A. Farris Bishop - daughter of Paulina and Elisha Farris (Tishomingo County, MS) who married J.M. Bishop (son of William/Mary Bishop, Tishomingo County, MS) 30 December 1860 (Tishomingo County, MS)? Support for Martha "B": So far I have not found J.M./Martha A. Bishop in the 1870 census. Also, two of Martha and William Riley Ledbetter's sons have the same names as two of Martha A. Farris Bishop's brothers (James D. and John). Martha A. Farris Bishop w as a FARRIS (by birth) and a BISHOP (by marriage). This would explain the conflict between oral history/documentation. Additionally, she and Parilee Farris (possible 1st wife of W.R.) would have been second cousins. Does anyone have LEDBETTER, FARRIS or BISHOP information which would help me solve this riddle? Thanks, Brenda Rayman
