I have located my Great Grandfather Elias BArnes with his wife Avy and sons John and Elias with a sister Melton??? in the Federal Census of 1870 for Tishimongo County, Mississippi and I am curious if anyone out there might have a copy of Goodspeed's "Biographical & Historical Memoirs of Mississippi" I was able to find an index to the publication that indicates an Elias Barnes in volume 1 page 309. My grandfather, John Ervin Strickland, was born in Tishomingo County. He married Georgia Ann McAnally in 1890. He was born in 1870. His father was Simon Newton Stricklin, born about 1834, died feb.13, 1909, married Polly Ann Manus, 1856. His father was Ervin Stricklin born about 1798, married Mary L. Maynor in 1820. Where in South Carolina did this Frost line come from???? Seeking information on all Frost's born in SC before 1790, especially the following: (1) JOHN FROST b: 1782 in SC. He married Rebecca ? b: 1774 in SC. Land purchased in Perry Co, Al as John Frost Senr (Sr?) 1831, John Frost Junr (Jr?)1830, Jacob W Frost in 1837. On 1830 and 1840 Census for Perry Co, AL. Also on census in 1840 John C and John T Frost, Jacob Frost, who are these John's. (2) One son JACOB FROST, my ggg grandfather was b: 1812 SC married Eliza beth Corley b: 1815 SC in 1833, Perry Co, Al. Sometime between 1840 and 1849 the moved to TISHOMINGO CO, MS. On the 1850 Census John and Rebecca are living with Jacob and Elizabeth. By 1860 Jacob purchased land in Franklin Co, AR (now Logan Co) and raised his family until his death in 1886. Elizabeth was still on the 1900 Census for Logan Co, AR living with their son John V Frost. Other children of Jacob and Elizabeth were Mary Ann Frost, Jesse A Frost, William Gurdine! Frost all born in Perry Co, AL. Any info on this direct Frost line of Mississippi would be appreciated. Other surnames of interest, Morris, Cobb, Larimer, Corley and Dees. |

My gg-grandfather was Wesley A. Davis (1854-1934). His previous history has been SO HARD TO FIND! He married M.E.(Elizabeth) Johnson (1861-1949). They are both buried at a remote cemetery in Prentiss Co MS. MS vitals can't find a thing on him, and I'm wai ting for info from MS Archives & History, though I'm not holding my breath. Prentiss, Alcorn & Tishomingo used to be one county. Wesley is said to be part Indian. Their children's names were: Mattie May(1878), Serena(1879), Rosena (Rosa1884-1967)), Pink(1 886), Reason(1888), Susan(1891), Wheeler(1893), Frank(1895) and Harvey(1901). Rosa was my g-grandmother and I do have her death certificate that shows Wesley A. Davis as her father. Does anyone show my Wesley as sibling or show his parents??? What about M .Elizabeth Johnson?
