CHAMNESS.... A George CHAMNESS obtained land grants in Tishomingo County in 1842 and 1844 and a George W. Chamness obtained a grant in about 1849. There is a George CHAMNESS family later in 1860 in Texas with the wife Nancy A. CARTER CHAMNESS with several children. I would like to clarify this marriage as occurring in MS or perhaps TN. Any information on Selia C. Medley, born 11/20/1850, died 1/21/1906. She married my great-grandfather, Andrew Jones 10/12/1871. Their children were attending school in Twp 3 of Tishomingo Co per 1894 records. Andrew Jones was a Cherokee. I would like to find out whether Selia Medley was also Cherokee. |

I am looking for information about Henry Van Ness shown on the "enlistments from Tishomingo co." page. my ggggrandfather's name is George Henry Clay VanNess and we know he was in Roddy's brigade, but we are not sure where he was when he enlisted. I think these may be the same person as the prison record we have for him lists him as 'Henry Van Ness' His mother, Mary Ann Vanness, passed away in 1856 and we do not know where he went in between then and enlisting in Roddy's. She lived in Florence,AL as of the 1850 census. We can not find Henry in the 1860 census for any of the surrounding states. Any help is appreciated. Charlie |

Hi, I'm looking for a William Woodrow French. He was born in Tennessee, I believe in 1915 and married Mildred Tomerlin supposedly they divorced and he moved to MS and remarried. I found a William W French in the S.S. index says that he was born in 1915 and died in 2001 in Tishomingo Co, MS. His parents were Clem & Myrtle French. John M. BOYERS married Matilda DICKSON in 1821 in Perry Co., TN. Matilda Dickson b-1/3/1802 and husband John M. Boyers were in Sumner Co., TN in 1830, then moved to Tishimingo Co., MS where they were located in 1840, 1850, and 1860. They later moved to Paris, Lamar Co., TX. They had at least 2 children.
