Hello fellow researchers. I am looking for a confederate soldier named James Allen Frederick who died in service in Tishomingo county. We don't know where he was buried but found old family records that say he died in Tishomingo County in late 1862. He was in the 5th Alabama Calvary along with his son and four of his brothers. The story of this family is amazing. I would like to find a final resting place for him but beleive he might have been left on the battlefield and not identified like so many of our fallen dead. Any help would be great, thanks for your time. |

I have part of a letter from the old Williams house in Iuka Mississippi. It is from someone named "Foster" to his niece "Bettie." In this letter he talks of having "fallen back from Jackson and is now 30 miles east on the Jackson-Meridian railroad." He was in a "considerable battle." He says they thought the "yankees had gone back to Vicksburg" and that they thought "Grant would either ride against Mobile or concentrate at Corinth so as to communicate with Rosencranz." There are no surnames at all. People mentioned are "Uncle Foster, Bettie, Fayette (who was at Chattanooga), Mother, brother & sister." Foster is going to send the letter via Mr. McDougal, and wants Bettie to send a hat back, also via Mr. McDougal. He mentions that another man in his regiment, Tom Looney, had a ball shot into his haversack. The ball went through a tin plate, a case knife, and stopped in a piece of bacon - but Tom Looney was unhurt. The last people to live in the house were a brother a! nd four sisters, none of whom married: Marcus Williams, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Williams, Eula Williams, and unknown name sister Williams. Does anyone know anything about any of these people? |
