Richard Burress log book
1830's
Old Tishomingo County, Mississippi
Indexed by: Vicki Burress Roach
(This was one of the most difficult documents I have ever attempted to index. I am sure I have made many mistakes. Vicki )
Around July, 1830 Richard Burress opened a shop in Old Tish. Co. He recorded all items purchased and brought from Lagrange, Alabama to begin his shop. Later it appears an inn was added. In August a man named Bob was hired as stocker for a five month period at $5.00. This Burress line was from Lawrence Co., AL.
This book was found intact in the Corinth courthouse attic by the Alcorn Co. Genealogical Society during a cleaning project. It is the oldest existing records for Old Tish. Co.
(The information in this shop ledger shows who had accounts, what service was provided, amount and date charged, when paid, etc. The back of the ledger book was used to note some miscellaneous information.)
Surnames of all people mentioned: Page numbers:
Since this information is difficult to transcribe and some accounts are quite lengthy, please do not request lookups. I will gladly send you a photocopy of the page(s) for a fee upon request.
After I indexed this, I decided to use full names. All names in the ledger did not have a first name. Many are Mr. Jones or Mrs. Smith, etc. If you see several same surnames, only the first entry has the page numbers. The following same names go with the page numbers.
