   THE SON OF WILLIAMS SMAW WOODARD AND CAROLINE JONES BLOUNT OF BEAUFORT, CO.,
NC DIED AT HIS RESIDENCE IN LEWISBURG, CONWAY COUNTY ARKANSAS, DECEMBER 5, 1876,
AFTER A SHORT BUT BRIEF ILLNESS, JUDGE AUSGUSTUS FREDERICK WOODARD, AGED 35 YEARS
AND 7 MONTHS. HE WAS A LAWYER BY PROFESSION. HE PRACTICED AT THE BAR IN BENON,
SALINE COUNTY WHER HE BECAME AQUAINTED WITH AND MARRIED SUSAN F. JOYNER, DAUGHTER
OF JOHNSON JONES JOYNER ABOUT 1857. FROM THENCE HE LOCATED IN THIS CITY. IN 1866
HE WAS ELECTED CITY ATTORNEY, WHICH POSITION HE FILLED WITH DISTINCTION TO HIMSELF
AND CREDIT TO THE CITY. HIS REMAINS WERE DEPOSITED IN MT. HOLLY CEMETERY, UNDER THE
BEAUTIFUL AND IMPRESSIVE CEREMONIES OF THE MASONIC FRATERNITY. HE LEAVES A DEVOTED
WIFE, FIVE CHILDREN AND TWO SISTERS OF WASHINGTON, NC AND JEFFERSON TEXAS AND MANY
FRIENDS TO MOURN HIS UNTIMELY LOSS. PEACE TO HIS ASHES.
