On a recent trip to Haywood County, we visited Cataloochee, which is part of the Smoky Mountain National Park. Cataloochee was a mountain community that began in 18xx. During the Great Depression, the United States Government bought the land, buildings and such from the people of Cataloochee. A visit to Cataloochee today shows remnants of the once thriving community. Only a few buildings and structures remain, but it is a legacy to those who settled and lived in this beautiful area. | |
