Arthur Stevens was born to Mr. and Mrs. George and Clara (Justus) Stevens on February 14, 1889 in rural Boone County, Nebraska.

Arthur was the second child to George and Clara Stevens. The first child (Earl) had died in infancy (B: January 1888 and died August 14, 1888). Arthur spent his beginning years helping his father's first on the family farm and later on with the harness and buggy shop in St. Edward Nebraska.

Arthur assisted his father in the family harness and buggy business and when his dad became the local Drayman (Freight Wagon Hauling), he assisted his father in the Dray business. Arthur's daughter Lucy assisted her father and Grandfather with the bookkeeping for the Dray business. In several of the Ledger's, we find Lucy practicing her English and spelling lessons on the spare pages to include spelling her name, her father's, and writing replies to letters.

Arthur attended the local St. Edward Grade and High School where he met and married his wife, Atalee L. Hazlitt on June 10, 1908 in St. Edward, Nebraska. Atalee L. Hazlitt was the daughter of John and Mary (Irwin) Hazlitt.

Arthur and Atalee had five children, Kenneth Marion born November 12, 1909; , Forrest Glenn born December 20, 1910, Lois E. (Mrs. Raymond Paulson) born July 07, 1916, Elaine (Mrs. Ray Otte) born May 08, 1920 and Lucy Margie born April 08, 1928.

Arthur was also the local mail carrier for St. Edward for a number of years. Arthur continued to assist his father (George) with the Drayman business until he moved his family to Walthill Nebraska in 1917.

In late March of 1929 Arthur injured his foot while repairing a car engine at his Automobile Shop. He had the Car Engine hosted up on a chain when it broke and fell on his foot. He received medical care from the local doctor at the time. However, it did not respond to treatment and later he was moved to an Omaha hospital. The infection was so bad that they had to amputate his leg. The infection traveled to his arm and more amputations were conducted to remove his arm and part of his shoulder in an effort to save his life. On April 5, 1929 at the age of 40 years, 1 month and 22 days, Arthur passed away.

His body was brought to the home of his parents at St. Edward and was laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery. Arthur left behind his Wife (Atalee Hazlitt) and five children (Kenneth, Forrest, Lucy, Lois and Elaine). He was proceed in death by his sister Lucy Ellen (Mrs. Claire Condreay) who died November 16,1924. Atalee L. (Hazlitt) Stevens passed away in 1937 and was laid to rest next to her husband.
