Oakland Independent, Oakland, Burt Co., Nebraska.

Justin Masters has been extracting news from microfilm loaned to him by NSHS. He has a number of files with some variation in format. He began by seeking his own family. Eventually his interest and expertise extended to covering all the names in the Oakland Independent newspaper. He has generously offered to share these data files with Burt County, NEGenWeb Project.

The older files are not coded by event type, newer files are AND are supplemented by non-coded files. Below you will find a list of the surnames that are of special interest to Mr. Masters. He has provided some additional data, primarily for those surnames in non-coded files. Often it could be called "social", "school" or "sales" events. The date of publication is given for these items.

ANNIV - Anniversary mentioned
B - Birth
BD - Birthday mentioned (typically for older people, but relaxed later)
BIO - Biographical article
CRIME - uh...self evident. :-) Usually outside Burt Co.
D - Death
D-_______ - Death by murder, suicide
DIV - Divorce
FAM - Some family mentioned
GEOG - Some info about moving to/from Burt Co.
INJURY - Self explanatory
M - Marriage
OBIT - Obituary (apparently either a mistake on my part or when no death was mentioned elsewhere in paper) Possibly changed to "D"
