The first two - three rows on the east side of the cemetery have
probably 10-30 unmarked graves. There are spaces where there are
probably unmarked graves through out the cemetery. The listing of
the graves that are unmarked are in a locked safe in the Fordyce NE
rectory. By calling the rectory one could obtain information if someone
feels that their family is buried in this cemetery and it doesn’t seem
to be recorded.

* While reading the stones one lady stopped by and thought that there had
been a fire and the wooden crosses had burned off on the east side of the
cemetery. The present caretaker didn’t think so. I don’t know.

Kleinschmit, Witte, Goeden, Zavadil, Kollars, and Lammers, are some of the
first names that came to the Meonominee area. The town was established for
the purpose of a church and school around 1883. Many supplies that were
needed were brought in by boat from Yankton SD across the Missouri River.
St. Boniface became a mission parish of St. Helena. In October of 1900
the church caught fire and burned. Later the church was rebuilt and became
a strong parish with a school.
