This file was submitted by: Carol Tramp Posted: February 2006 ============================================================================ Charles and Mary Schmuck Bartz Charles Wilhelm Bartz was born February 27, 1870 in Aten, Cedar, NE to Carl and Hanna Juhnke Bartz, and died March 04, 1949 and died at his sons Elton’s home in rural Cedar Co. Nebraska. He married Mary “Maria” Schmuck April 24, 1903 in Yankton County, SD, ten miles north of Yankton city. She was the daughter of John Schmuck and Anna Stucky. Witnesses for their wedding were John Schmuck and Elizabeth Schmidtgall, her brother and sister. Mary was born October 03, 1880 in Yankton, Yankton County, SD. She died January 13, 1924 at the Yankton Hospital in Yankton, SD three weeks after her mother had passed away. Mary had two brothers, Jacob and John Schmuck and two sisters, Elizabeth Schmidtgall and Katherine Schmuck. They started their married life on the Carl Bartz farm located near Beaver Creek, Cedar Co. NE. In Feb. 0f 1911 Charles’s brother Ernest had a farm sale and he bought the place that would be known as the Elton Bartz home place. Charles and Mary had two children: Alma Matilda, born March 11, 1905 and Elton born August 31, 1908, north of Crofton. They attended the John Tramp or Dist. 87 school south of their farm. Alma started Crofton High School and completed her first year but due to the poor health of her mother she quit school and provided care for her invalid mother. Alma married Herman Tramp November 22, 1927 at Beaver Creek Catholic Church in rural Crofton. They had seven children; Charles (Geralda Foecke), Harold (Marilyn Sorensen), Quinten (Imogene Schmidt), Wilfred (Donna Kralicek), Rosemary (Elmer Jansen) Norman (Carol Gregg), and Marcelene (Arven Kathol). Alma lived three days after her 95th birthday and died at Sacred Heart Hospital on March 13, 2000. Herman died at Yankton Hospital on his birthday April 12, 1990. They are buried at St. Rose Cemetery west of Crofton. Elton married Hilda Hegge, daughter of Benjamin and Caroline Wuesterwald Hegge. on February 11, 1941 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Constance, NE. They had six children; Melvin, Larry, Leon and Roger and Leora and Charlotte. Elton died from a tractor accident on August 2nd, 1958 and is buried in St. Rose Cemetery. Hilda died Feb. 23, 1994 and is buried beside Elton. He lived on his farm 4 1/2 miles northeast of Crofton, until his death, he retired from farming in 1927, but continued to live at the farm with his children. He also spent time in the Alma Tramp home where grandchildren would relate stories of the older gentleman with humor and love.
