Carl and Hanna Juhnke Bartz

Carl W. Bartz was born January 20, 1842 in Zitmin Schlawe Pommern Germany,
and died June 10, 1918 in Crofton, Knox, NE resulting from a fall. He came
to Wisconsin in America in 1869 where he worked as a gardner meeting Hanna
while there. He married Hanna Ernestine Fredricka Juhnke 1871. She was
born June 28, 1847 in Friedensdorf, Schlawe Pommern Germany, and died October

Cemetery there.

They came to Knox County, Nebraska in 1870 where they worked as ranch hands
on the Charles Mischke Ranch. Later they homesteaded at Beaver Creek, in
Cedar County, NE, on a farm located just south of the current Quinten Tramp
farm.

Carl filed a homestead patent at Niobrara, NE from the US Government on
March 30, 1885 for 160.05 acres. On June 4, 1887 he received a U.S.
certificate from President Hayes. That same year they lost two of their very
young children, August and Ida to scarlet fever.

On March 6, 1892 he purchased S'SW' quarter of section 5 from Robert
Seaman of New York for $880 and payment of 1887 taxes.

Carl paid the passage to the US for a Carl Juhnke and Herman Zart who
were nephews to the couple.

Carl and Hanna had ten children, Charles, b. Feb. 27, 1970 at Aten, NE

Charles batched at the farm while they lived there. After his marriage in 1903
the Carl Bartz family moved back to this farm and lived in the front part of
the home.

In 1910 Bill and Ernest moved to Oklahoma. Having a farm sale Ernest sold
his land to Charles. Carl rented his land to a Kelly family for a year, then the
next year sold it to Henry Ausdemore. In 1911 Carl and Hannah moved to the
Severin Hobelheinrich home in the Crofton Public School Block.

badly. He died June 10, 1918. He is buried in the Methodist Cemetery north and
