BLACK Mrs. Howard (Helen) Black, 65, a resident of the Randolph community for many years, passed away on Sunday, July 30, at Lake Hospital, Yellowstone National Park, Wyo. following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held on Thursday (today) at 2:00 p.m. at the Wausa Auditorium, Mr. Lloyd Wilson will officiate at the services. Internment will be in the Magnet cemetery under the direction of the Johnson Funeral Home. Mr. and Mrs. Black reside in Wyoming during the park season where Mr. Black is employed as head cook at the hospital at Yellowstone National Park. Helen Black, daughter of Charles and Bertha Johnson Axelson, was born July 30, 1907 at Oakland. She attended the Magnet Public School and Wayne State College. On December 22, 1928 she married Howard Black at Yankton, SD. Mrs. Black taught in the Randolph, Belden and Wausa schools for 30 years. She resigned from teaching in March of 1971 due to ill health. Survivors include her widow, Howard of Randolph; one daughter, Mrs. Yuvonne Barker of Waco, TX; two sons, James E. Black of Norfolk and Dennis E. Black of Kellogg, IA; three sisters, Mrs. Ted (Lena Mae) Gravers of Battle Creek, Mich, Mrs. Herbert (Ruth) Dowling of Wausa and Mrs. Carl (Lulu) Larson of Randolph; one brother Phillip Axelson of Oakland; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
