Korth ====================================================================== KATHERINE BLOOMQUIST Katherine Bloomquist 102, Wausa died October 19, 2006 at the Wausa Health Care Center. A family service was held October 23 at the Magnet Christian Church where Katherine had been a long time member. Services were held later at the Wausa Evangelical Covenant Church with Pastor Lance Shaffer and Robert Moore officiating. Katherine Diederike (Popken) Bloomquist was born January 24, 1904, near Akron, Iowa, to Fred and Diederike (Johnson) Popken. She was one of 13 children. She attended school only until the fourth grade. As a young girl, she would help neighbors and friends with housekeeping and sewing. In November 1922 she came to Nebraska to live with and help her sister Theresa Rohlfs, who lived on a farm between Magnet and McLean. During that time, she met Harold Bloomquist. Harold and Katherine traveled by train to Sioux City, Iowa and were married January 2, 1924. They had five children. For two years, they farmed one mile east and one mile south of Pleasant Valley, then they lived north of Wausa for one year. In 1927, they moved to a farm one and one half miles south of Magnet and in 1941 moved to the original Bloomquist homestead. Survivors include two sons, Dale and his wife Delores, and Dwight and wife Lois all of Wausa; three daughters, Illa McLain, Randolph; Shirley and Dan Dawson , Magnet and Connie Wintz Wausa; 23 grandchildren; 67 great grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold and two sons-in-law, Bryon Mclain and Harry Wintz.
