Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 10:30 am at the Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church in Wynot, Nebraska with Rev. Michael Keating and Rev. Don Doll officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wynot. A Vigil Service will be on Monday at 7:00 pm at St. Peters Catholic Church in Lincoln. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00pm to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the Holy Family (Sacred Heart) Catholic Church in Wynot. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church in Wynot. Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington is handling the arrangements. Barbara Burbach was born July 15th, 1962 in Yankton, South Dakota to Cyril and Irene (Kalkowski) Burbach. She attended Wynot Public School where she was very active in sports and school activities. She graduated from Wynot Public High School in 1980. Barbara attended Creighton University where she majored in communications and graduated with honors in 1984. She worked for Northwestern Bell for three years before attending law school at Yale University. She graduated from Yale University Law School in 1989 and was a member of the Nebraska and New York State Bar Associations. Following her graduation, she worked in New York City as an attorney at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison. Barbara returned to Nebraska in 1995 and lived in south Lincoln. She was very active in researching and writing for various newspapers and publications. She belonged to St. Peters Catholic Parish and enjoyed singing in the choir. She loved to read and play with her many nieces and nephews. Barbara overcame many challenges after suffering a head injury in a car accident in 1990. She served as a great inspiration to many people. She went on to get a masters degree in journalism at the University of Nebraska and worked with the Nebraska State Legislature to interpret laws for several Nebraska newspapers. Barbara is survived by her mother Irene Burbach of Wynot, a sister Lisa Heimes and her husband Terry of Lincoln; four brothers and their wives, Larry and Ruth Burbach of Mission Viejo, California; Steve and Rhonda Burbach of Lincoln; Rick and Tammy Burbach of Wynot; and Rob and Karen Burbach of Omaha. She is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Cyril.
