Fifteen years following the death of her husband, the late Louis Burbach, funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Theresa Burbach, 85, resident of Cedar County the past 66 years. The late Mrs. Burbach died at the farm home of her son, John Burbach, at St. James , Friday following a six month illness of complications of advanced age. Requiem Mass Held - Requiem high mass was read at 10 o’clock Monday morning at the Sacred Heart church at Wynot by the pastor Rev. Otto M Zillig, Interment was in the Bow Valley cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were six grandsons, Florens Burbach, Ludwig Burbach, and Clarence Burbach of Wynot; Edwin Pick, Hugo Kathol and S W Stevens of Hartington. Among the out of town relatives present at the funeral was Mrs. Will Burbach of Los Angeles, Cal., a daughter-in-law of the deceased. Large family Survives- Survivors include seven children, 53 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, two brothers, and two sisters. The children are Mrs. Anton Pick, Louis F. Burbach, Mrs. Joseph Kathol, and Jacob Burbach of Hartington, John Burbach of St. James, Joseph Burbach of Wynot and Matt Burbach of Conception, Mo. Brothers and Sisters are William and Joseph Arens of Crofton, Mrs. John Tigges of Fordyce and Mrs. Mathilda Noecker of Crofton. The late Mrs. Burbach was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Frank W. Arens who died at his home in Wynot, November 16; one son Will Burbach who expired at his Calif. Home six months ago; and two daughters, Mrs. John Stevens who expired at her home at Bow Valley in 1932, and Mrs. Anton Hochstein of Wynot, who succumbed at her farm home in 1899. Born in Germany - Theresa Arens, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Arens was born December 3, 2850, in Westphalia, Germany. When she was 19 years old, she came with her parents and brothers and sisters to America, settling on a homestead six miles north of Hartington. The family endured the hardships of pioneer life – blizzards, drought and depressing times. They worked and struggled and were able to overcome the trying times and difficulties with other pioneers in the northern part of the county. On May 9, 1871, the marriage of Miss Theresa Arens to Louis Burbach, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Werner Burbach, was solemnized. Following their marriage, they established a home near the present Bow Valley village where they resided nearly half a century. Mr. Burbach died at the farm home in 1920, and following his death, Mrs. Burbach continued to reside on the farm, making her home with her son, Matt, and family. She retired from the farm in 1930, and since that time, has made her home with her children. Deceased was a devout member of the Sacred Heart church of Wynot. In former years before health failed, she took an active interest in all work of church and organizations, and civic enterprises.
