Collier was born August 21, 1860, in DeKalb County Illinois and died in Sycamore, Illinois, December 22,1930 aged 70 years, 4 months and 1 day. Mr. Collier lived in his native county until he was about 27 years old, then located near Strawberry Point, Iowa and farmed there two or three years and then came to Randolph in the Spring of 1889, or 41 years ago, his mother and brothers and sisters living here at the time. Mr. Collier bought the home place of a half section eight and a half miles northwest of Randolph, paying $11.50 an acre for the land. At that time there were but two improved farms between his place and Randolph. After a year spent in improving his farm as far as he was able at that time, he returned to Illinois and was there married to Elva A. Drake on February 26, 1890. With his bride he returned to Randolph and settled on the farm that was their home for almost 20 years. During that time, Mr. Collier, by diligence and good business sagacity, prospered. On March 18, 1908, Mrs. Collier passed on and in 1910, Mr. Collier due to failing health rented the farm and moved to Randolph where he lived for eight years, in 1918 going back to his old home of Sycamore, Illinois and there married Flora S ivwright, a friend of his youth. Mr. Collier made Sycamore his home from that time, returning to Randolph once or twice each year on business matters and to visit his children. Deceased leaves his widow, his two children, Clayton Collier and Mrs. Oscar Coulter of Randolph and three grandchildren. Burial was made in Magnet beside the mother of his children.
