DEATH OF ROBERT COX

The angel of death stepped into our midst on Thursday morning and claimed
Robert Cox one of Magnet’s oldest citizens at the age of 83 years.

The deceased, known to everyone as “Dad”, was a friend to all who knew him.
He was of a kind and helpful disposition to his neighbors and many friends,
and will be greatly missed by the whole community. Death came after a month’s
illness brought on by an attack of pneumonia, which later developed into other
complications. His six remaining children were at the father’s bedside during
his illness and death. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in charge
of Rev. Shoaf of Randolph. Burial was made in the local cemetery beside his
wife who preceded him about four years ago.

Robert Cox was born in Washington County, Penn. September 24, 1838, and died
at Magnet, Nebraska on March 2, 1922 at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 8 days.
When 10 years of age, Robert’s parents died in the flu epidemic and Robert and his
brothers were put on an orphan train and adopted by a preacher and his wife in
Washington County, Iowa. At the age of 22 he was united in marriage to Eliza Jane
Husted and to this union were born twelve children, six sons and six daughters. The
wife and mother and six children preceded him to the great beyond, leaving six
children to mourn his loss, three sons and three daughters; Merritt Cox of Magnet,
Santford Cox of Hartington; John C. Cox of Cable, Wisc; Mrs. W.K. Van Cleave of
Burke, SD; Mrs. W.W. Elsberry of Hartington and Mrs. Mary Scrivens of Tilden.
