Korth ====================================================================== MYRIAH DAWSON Mrs. Myriah Dawson passed out of this life at the home of her son, Leonard Dawson, our worthy townsman, at the ripe old age of one hundred and two years, three months and nine days. She was born on June 1, 1811 in the state of North Carolina. When quite young, she moved with her parents to Ohio, where she grew to womanhood and became the wife of Leonard Dawson. In company with her husband she moved to Illinois, where after raising a family of seven children, four boys and three girls, her husband sickened and died after which she came to Nebraska, where she remained until her spirit took its flight to the land of an uncloudy day, which occurred on Friday; September 12th. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Martin at the Methodist church at 2 o’clock Sunday. The sermon was an appeal to the living to make their peace, calling and election sure. The subject of this sketch was very unassuming, a devoted wife and mother, beloved by all who had learned to know her, loyal in her devotion to the sick and afflicted. After the funeral services a large concourse of friends followed the remains to the Magnet Cemetery where all that remained of Grandma Dawson were lowered to their last resting place. Quite a number of friends and relatives from the surrounding towns and country were in attendance at the funeral services. She leaves to mourn her departure two sons and quite a number of grandchildren besides a host of loving friends. Grandma Dawson was considered to be one of the oldest persons in the United States.
