Korth ====================================================================== 17- YEAR OLD DIES JOHN WAYNE FURNESS John Wayne, 17 year-old-son of Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Furness, living a mile and a half north of Magnet, died Tuesday morning at 8:45 at the home of his parents. Death was caused by blood poisoning from tonsillitis- a rare disease, and hard to cope with. The young man became ill last Wednesday, and on Thursday a doctor was called in to attend him. The strange malady was hard to combat and a second doctor and nurse was enlisted and everything that medical science and care could do was done to save the young man’s life, but in vain. John Wayne Furness was born at Magnet on February 7, 1914. With the exception of three years, 1917 to 1919, when the family lived at Crofton, he had lived his life about Magnet. He was a junior in the Magnet High School, and active in all athletics of high school, especially basketball and tennis. He was a likeable young man, enjoying his full share of friends in the community. His death was a shock, not only to his family but also to this large circle of friends. Those who are left to mourn his untimely demise are his mother and father; two brothers, Dale and Darrell; three sisters, Mildred, Avis, and Wanda; and many relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Friday) at 2 o’clock at the Magnet Christian Church. Burial will be made in the Magnet Cemetery.
