Permission granted by: Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== CEDAR COUNTY NEWS August 20, 1925 James Mallatt Dies After Long Illness Cancer of Stomach Results in Death of Resident of Cedar county James Mallatt, a resident of Cedar county since 1868, passed away Wednesday at the home of his brother, W.H. Mallatt, residing about ten miles east of Hartington, following an illness extending over a period of three years, death being due to cancer of the stomach. Mr. Mallatt was born in Jasper County, Indiana, on March 10, 1866, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mallatt. The family moved to Cedar county two years later his parents taking as a homestead the farm now owned and occupied by his brother W.H. Mallatt. Following the death of his father he continued to occupy the place with his mother for a number of years until they sold the place to his brother W.H. six years ago and removed with his mother to St. James. His mother died six years ago. He was taken ill three years ago and about a year later he underwent an operation which gave relief for about a year. He became seriously ill about three weeks ago and passed away Wednesday. He was a member of the Methodist church for many years and was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the IOOF Lodges. He is survived by one brother, W.H. Mallatt and three sisters; Mrs. J.H. Lively, of Hartington, Mrs. T.N. Jones, Wynot, and Mrs. Frances Keegan, St. James. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Ruyle at the Wynot Methodist Church at 2 o’clock on Friday afternoon, burial being made in the Wynot Cemetery.
