Permission granted by Rob Dump, Editor, Cedar County News ====================================================================== Cedar County News 12/22/1965 Cedar County pioneer died Sunday John Mueller Sr., 84, of Fordyce, a pioneer of Cedar county, died Sunday, December 19, 1965, at Sacred Heart hospital in Yankton. He had been ailing for some time . Funeral services were held this morning, Wednesday, December 22, at 10:30 at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Menominee, Rev. Otto Zillig officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Mr. Mueller was born July 2, 1881, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mueller, Sr. He lived most of his life on a 320 acre farm which his late father had taken as a claim. He attended a rural school one mile north of Menominee and walked the distance 4 times daily. Mr. Mueller married Martha Albrecht. Mrs. Mueller died in March 1928. In 1928, he and his daughter, Elizabeth, started the Riverview Hatchery, which was located one-half mile east of old highway 15 on the Missouri river bluffs. He was treasurer of the school board in his district for 20 years. Mr. Mueller was a life-long resident of the St. Helena and Fordyce communities. He became a member of the board directors of the AAA, now the ASCS. In 1931 he took over the duties of the Chairman of the board when Loren Hunter died in 1941 and remained in the capacity until 1949. He then was named third member of the board and served until 1950 when he retired. Survivors included 7 daughters , Elizabeth, Rose, and Lorraine of Frodyce; Mrs. Norbert (Juliana( Beyer, of Malibou, Calif.; Mary, of Sioux City; Mrs. Cyril (Esther) Schulte, of Sioux City; and Mrs. John (Cleopha) Schulte, of Downey, Calif.; 3 sons- Henry of Fordyce, John Jr., of Yankton start Route, and Edmund of Omaha; a brother Peter of Crofton; 28 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
